Mechanical Engineering

John Caldwell, ’82 BSME, MSME, MD, is physician practicing at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in a subspecialty known as Cardiac Anesthesiology. In addition to caring for patients with complex multi-organ system illness, Dr. Caldwell trains residents and fellows in related medical fields. Before training in medicine, and after Bucknell graduation, he worked in private industry as a design engineer in electromechanics for a military subcontractor in Dallas, Texas.

Although practicing medicine full time for 32 years, he credits his engineering background and mindset with the foundation in diagnosing and treating all medical conditions, particularly those of the circulation and pulmonary system. Dr. Caldwell remains heavily involved in music, as was true in Bucknell days, in running a recording studio and producing music with US and International artists.
